Winter Vacation in Breckenridge
Breckenridge is one of the best slow ski destinations in the USA. This town is located in Central Colorado, USA. It’s also famous for its Snowmobile, Ice castle, Dog Parade, and many more. Last week, I spent my winter vacation in Breckenridge and the experience was unforgettable.
I stayed there almost four days and will share my experience in this article. This article can be one of the best articles about Breckenridge during winter because I don’t miss anything I have enjoyed.
How to Get to Breckenridge
You can get there in two ways. One is by air and the other is by car. Both are popular to reach there. But as my budget was short and I wanted to enjoy it much, I decided to get there by car. Below are some essential guides on both by air and by car.

If you like to drive and aim to see the natural beauty on both sides of the road, you should drive to the Breckenridge. The trip will be budget-friendly in this way and this is much more enjoyable.
Getting Breckenridge By Air
The nearest major airport of Breckenridge is Denver International Airport. It’s about 104 miles from Breckenridge. You have to rent a car to get to Breckenridge from the airport.
Accommodation
This town offers many accommodation options from luxury hotels to budget-friendly lodges. Below are some popular choices include.
01. One Ski Hill Place: This is luxurious accommodation. Here you will find many units where you can enjoy the beautiful mountain views. You will find many indoor and outdoor hot tubs, a heated pool, and a fitness center. Also, you will get a bar and restaurant, on-site dining options, and a spa center. So this place can be your one of the best choice for winter vacation in Breckenridge.
02. Mountain Thunder Lodge: This is just a short walk from Main Street Breckenridge. This lodge is the best option for restaurants, nightlife, and shops. Also, it is near the BreckConnect Gondola. So you got quick access to the Breckenridge Ski Resort. I chose this place to stay.
03. Beaver Run Resort: This resort is situated at the base of Peak 9. You can easily access the Breckenridge Ski Resort from here. The lodge has many options for staying here line one, two, and three-bedroom condos. So if you are with your family or a solo traveler, it doesn’t matter.
04. The Lodge at Breckenridge: The Lodge is located at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. So this is the best option for breathtaking views of the surrounding forest and Rocky Mountains. This place is ideal for photography because of its picturesque environment. If you have a pet, it offers pet-friendly accommodations for you.
Skiing and Snowboarding in Breckenridge
Breckenridge Ski Resort is the main attraction in Breckenridge. This place is famous for skiing and snowboarding. Peak 6
This is one of the newer additions to Breckenridge Ski Resort. Peak 6 was opened in the 2013 ski season. I got there 400 acres of new terrain. There are many runs you will find there.
Blur runs, advanced black, and double black diamond runs, make Peak 6 suitable for both beginner and expert skiers and snow-barders. I got thrilling experience on Bliss and Delirium runs.
This place is popular for its ice-powder stashes. Also, it has less crowded slopes compared to other peaks. I enjoyed their stunning natural beauty with awesome views of the Ten-mile Range and the surrounding area of the Rocky Mountains.
Peak 8
This peak opened in 1961 and was the Breckenridge’s original area. Park 8 has many attractions and features, making it a famous destination for snowboarders, skiers, and visitors year-round.
This peak has many terrain suitable for beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. There are some popular runs including 4 O’clock runs, this is the longest trail at Breckenridge.
I found there many high-speed lifts, including the Rocky Mountain SuperChair, the Colorado SuperChair, and the Imperial Express SuperChair which is the highest chair lift in North America. So don’t miss this place on your list of winter vacation in Breckenridge.
Peak 9
This Peak is ideal for intermediates and beginners. The lower half is composed of groomed and gentle green and blue runs that make it ideal for intermediate skiers. The lower slopes are perfect for families and beginners for their gentle slopes. But the upper half of Peak 9 is more challenging blue and black runs, catering to intermediate and advanced skiers.
Peak 10
This peak is known for its advanced skiing opportunities and challenging terrain. Peak 10 is not for the beginner, it’s only for advanced skiers. If you are an expert skier, you must try black and double black diamonds.
The Peak 10 has awesome panoramic views of the surrounding Breckenridge and Ricky Mountains area. The beauty makes this place more rewarding. Compared to other peaks, Peak 10 is more open. You should include this peak on your list of winter vacations in Breckenridge for its high-quality snow condition.
Snowshoeing in Breckenridge
This is one of the best options for the breathtaking beauty of the snow-covered landscape. I explored the scenic trails at the Breckenridge Nordic Center.
You can rent all snowshoeing accessories and gear from there or buy them from Amazon. Guided tours make snowshoeing accessible to all ages and abilities. So strap your snowshoes and discover the snowy wilderness of Breckenridge.
Snowmobiling
Some companies offer a range of tours suitable for both experienced and beginners. I found a company named Good Times Adventures. They guided me to enjoy a snowmobiling tour through the stunning backcountry.
Snowmobiling in Breckenridge was an exciting way to experience the snowy mountains. I rode a snowmobile like a motorized sled, through scenic trails and saw the stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.
I rented equipment and joined a guided tour to enjoy the snowy landscapes safely. So, I hopped on a snowmobile to enjoy the thrill of adventure.
Dog Sledding
This is one of my favorite activities during winter. As a kid, I wanted to do dog sledding when I watched it in movies. My wish has been fulfilled by coming to this place.
How about if you are sitting on a sled and some dog is pulling it? Isn’t it wonderful? This is a thrilling adventure. I felt the excitement as the dogs led you through trails.
Dog sledding is one of the best ways to bond with these amazing animals. I am sure that Dog Sledding makes your journey unforgettable.
Ice Skating
I visited the Stephen C. West Ice Arena for public skating sessions. Whether you are a seasoned skater or a beginner, this is an exciting opportunity to glide across the ice. Stephen C. West Ice Arena is a perfect palace for families, friends, or individuals to spend time together because of its friendly atmosphere and spacious ice rink. So I laced up my skates, hit the ice, and created lasting memories in that place.
Fat Biking
Fat Biking is a unique way to enjoy the winter scenery. It can make your trip more enjoyable. Although I haven’t done fat biking in the area, I recommend you do so.
Tubing in Breckenridge
The Carter Park and Pavilion offer a perfect tubing hill for families. This is the easiest way to enjoy your winter vacation in Breckenridge. Just take your tube and lie down on the ice.
Winter Events in Breckenridge
There are many winter events held in Breckenridge. But Ullr Fest and Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships are famous for them. If you are visiting Breckenridge in January then don’t miss those events.
